What Have You Learned Dorothy?

This month I celebrate my 45th year on this planet. This accomplishment, I believe, puts me soundly in middle age. So here’s a bunch of stuff I’ve learned I hope I can apply to the remaining 45 years I have:
  • Good things come to those who wait, but he who hesitates is lost. So you are screwed either way.

  • There are at least two sides to every story. The more sides you consider, the closer you get to the truth, but you never quite reach it in the same way the limit of an exponential function never quite reaches it's x axis intercept as y approaches infinity.

  • Special effects can make a good movie better, but only make a crummy movie worse.

  • You don’t always regret having an extra helping of a turkey dinner.

  • It’s better to have a kind spouse/partner than an attractive spouse/partner, but it’s best if they can have both qualities.

  • No good decisions were ever made after 1 AM.

  • Much of what I believed to be true 25 years ago was wrong. I expect the same revelation to occur in another 25 years.

  • The darker the berry, the sweeter the juice. I could say it ain't so but Darlin', what's the use?

  • Having kids is wonderful but having a good marriage is more important.

  • I will never catch up on my reading list.

  • Technology is rarely the answer to any problem.

  • Mac Davis could only have been a "heart-throb" in the 1970's.

  • There is no point in putting off doing  something you are afraid of. Things are usually never as bad as you think.

  • A tattoo on your neck or face is a mistake. So is one that says "REO Speedwagon".

  • The cemetery is full of people who would be happy to celebrate another birthday.

Middle age? I guess there is something to be said for wishful thinking :)

Doug: It sounds like you know something I don't, but should.

I will be 37 this month. :)

I have made many mistakes. I look forward to making many more.

They don't define me, they tell me who I'm not.

As for children, the decision is much like getting a tattoo on one's face... you need to be totally committed. :)

Nah, I know very little. It's just fun to make "old man" jokes, seeing as how I am a young whippersnapper of 32.

Julianna: I've seen many parents over the years who should be committed.

Doug: If you are planning to only make it to 64, then you are middle aged too!
